Do You Decide Or Do? Let's Talk Procrastination

In John Maxwell's book, "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth", John shares a riddle:

"Five frogs are sitting on a log. Four decide to jump off. How many are left?"

Most people would answer one, but the answer is five because as John goes onto say, "There's a difference between deciding and doing!" How many times during the day do you decide vs. doing? How many times during a week, month and year do you decide instead of do?

The Law of Diminishing Intent says, "The longer you wait to do something you should do now, the greater the odds that you will never actually do it". There are many reasons why we decide instead of do. I am not ready, I am scared, I have no motivation, it's too hard are all examples of reasons we tell ourselves when deciding instead of doing. How many times have you spoken these words to yourself? In other words, how many times have you fallen to procrastination?

As we sit in the middle of a pandemic, it's easy to procrastinate. Whether it's on a work project, that house project or our personal growth. It's easy to put aside our goals and dreams and instead sit on the couch and watch Netflix. We are all guilty of falling into this rut. Who doesn't like a good Netflix binge? However; the saying, "There is always tomorrow" is not true. If we have learned anything over the past six months, it is that tomorrow is not guaranteed. At the end of the day, there is no redo. You have one time to live today. Why not make the most of it?

It's time to latch onto a famous slogan, " Just Do It". The time is now, not tomorrow, not next month, not next year. Dive in and explore the unexpected. Don't worry about being perfect. If you sit back until you are ready, the perfect time may never come. But if you dive in now, you are on the road to growth and accomplishing your goals. Just think about how far you can go!

Be intentional, develop your strategy, and be consistent in your doing. With this threefold combination, you will be on the road to success! Now is the time to go after your professional goals, finish that home project or accomplish that goal you have been dreaming about. Dreams are great, but accomplishing them is an even better feeling! Just Do It!
